Mise-en-scène
LOCATION:
I have elected to secure accommodations through Airbnb to ensure a refined and well-groomed setting for my music video. This decision sets with my preference for a comfortable and personalized environment, but also well-decorated, and does not violate the privacy of my family members in case I film at home.
This kitchen is designed with an ideal lighting system tailored for a romantic dancing scene. The lighting fixtures are positioned overhead, emitting a warm-toned glow that contributes to the cultivation of a sweet and cozy ambiance.
This window has an old-school vibe to it, which helps create this sense of soft aesthetic that I'm trying to create for my music video.
This is another view of the bedroom, where there is a wall of polaroids and pictures (hanged beforehand by the host). While I cannot put them down and put up couple photos, filming the walls from far away could still create the same affect. This emphasizes the feeling of missing someone as the main character is looking at it.
Most of the furnitures in the living room are brown-colored and are wooden (coffee table, floor, the mirror frame, the chalkboard frame). Brown creates a home-vibe to it as most old-school Vietnamese interior designs are heavily wooden-based. This further indicates the sense of isolating inside the house of the main character.
COSTUME:
To relate this back to alternative rock music video conventions, the characters in mine are going to wear very simplistic clothing, as most of the settings are at home, where you're supposed to feel cozy and comfortable.
Opting for a grey zipped-hoodie is a judicious selection, given the conventional association of hoodies with home attire and their prevalent use in casual settings. In scenes featuring the character doing lip-syncing, it conveys an air of nonchalance towards personal appearance, emphasizing the character's lack of concern for outward aesthetics during those particular moments. Secondly, the hoodie serves as a visual cue, reinforcing the narrative of the character isolating herself within the confines of her home. This contributes significantly to the overall portrayal of the character's emotional and situational state.
Flannel pants serve a similar purpose as previously described and are would be worn by both the female and male characters during scenes depicting romantic couple activities within the home setting. The choice of these costumes is designed to evoke a sense of warmth and intimacy, fostering a sweet and cozy atmosphere for the audience. By adorning the characters in such attire, the production aims to enhance the romantic chemistry between them, providing a visually appealing and emotionally resonant experience for viewers. This intensifies the connection between the characters and elevating the audience's engagement with the romantic storyline.
On scenes where the main character is seen alone, she would be wearing dark-colored flannels, which indicates that she is not feeling loved without her "imaginary" lover around. While on scenes where both characters are seen together, the main character would be wearing bright-red flannels, which indicates how loved and happy she's feeling.
Numerous cuts of lip-syncing sequences feature the character lying on the bed wearing pajamas. This emphasizes the character's contemplative state as she is ready to go to sleep. This choice accentuates the character's introspective mood, highlighting the depth of her thoughts and the intensity of her emotions, particularly her unrequited love.
PROPS:
Some of the other filming props that are needed to aid the production of my music video are:
A camera to film high quality shots.
Lighting (includes warm setting)
Coffee pot - resonates with the lyrics and the narrative
2 coffee cups for romantic scenes between the characters
For filming equipment, since me and my friends all to not own any, we would get it from rental agencies.
For other props relating the mise-en-scene, I could purchase them on shopping sites or get them from home.
